Everything You Need To Know About Professional Speaking

Share Your Story = Monetize Your Message

I recently attended The Platform powered by Monetize Your Message, a speaking conference summit led by Daron Roberts and Will Baggett to learn the intricate details to crafting and building out your professional speaking career. I walked away inspired and definitely motivated to build upon some of the early success I’ve had with my own speaking journey. I would highly recommend getting up to speed on what the Monetize Your Message team is building. Here are some of the lessons I learned during the event:

Before I get into my lessons, I just want to make a point that I believe everyone has a story to tell and whether or not you are looking to become the next big speaker like Eric Thomas or Inky Johnson, you can impact people that are looking to connect. Everyone has personal insights, experiences, lessons, and stories to share to help motivate, encourage, inform, and inspire. Obviously how well you are able to craft your story and publicly speak play a role but I would encourage anyone and everyone to look into speaking.

What Type Of Speaker Are You

There are three types of speaker as it pertains to the professional speaker circuit. The first order of business is to find out which prototype you are.

  • Career Speakers

  • Celebrity Speakers

  • Subject Matter Expert Speakers

How To Engage Your Audience

People have short attention spans. If you don’t capture their attention right away, you’ve lost them. In order to engage your audience here are methods you need to focus on:

  • Educate

Everyone wants to learn if you can craft your message the right way

  • Engage Through Activity

Icebreakers, conversation starters, trivia, and/or quick games to get your audience engaged is a great way make your mark during a speaking engagement

  • Excite

How do you excite your audience, is it through your powerpoint, your tone, your ability to get participation, props on stage. What are you doing to excite your audience

  • Use STATS

Stats to back up points is a great way to engage. Just make sure your stats are correct.

How To Get Noticed

  • Change the Optics

  • Be Top Of Mind

  • Post More Content

  • Ask For Referrals

Make people feel like they are missing out on you. Both Daron and Will were adamant about being in front of people’s faces is the number one way to get noticed.

Building An Actual Business

  • Less is More

You don’t need every app for your business to make it successful. Pick your top 3-5 apps to help you with admin, sales, organization, content and invoicing then you’ll be good to go.

  • Streamline Your Operations

  • Delegate

Find a virtual assistant to help you focus on the bigger tasks

I would love the opportunity to speak to your organization sharing my experiences, insights, and lessons as a former professional soccer player turned athlete entrepreneur + creator. Themes that I focus on include:

  • Leadership

  • Career Transition

  • Sales + Personal Development

  • Personal Finance

  • Lessons From Sports
